What are Orthophotos?
Orthophotos are aerial photos that have been corrected for Lens distortion, camera tilt, perspective and topographic relief (changes in elevation of the earth's surface.
They have no distortion and have a uniform scale.
This means they are have the same accuracy as maps and can be used to measure true distances and dimensions.

Why are they Used?
Up to date imagery of large buildings or large portions of land.
Images from google earth or maps are often out of date, orthophotos produce the same quality and are can be taken when you need them.
Who would need them?
Construction companies use them when planning a building site to determine accurate terrain levels.
Property maintenance and management.
Roofs of Large commercial buildings can be inspected and assessed with 1 orthoimage and zoomed in to inspect area’s of concern.
